Miss Tourism Rwenzori Crowns New Queen

Miss Tourism Rwenzori which seeks to give a human face to Rwenzori region’s tourism strengths through pageantry has crowned its 3rd queen since its birth.

The competition was among ten talented girls where Masika Doreen, a 23 year old teacher became both the Judges and crowd’s favorite.

Hon. Bwambale Ferigo who officiated as the chief guest said the pageant is very relevant and respectable in the community as far as putting the profile of Rwenzori region is concerned.

The new Queen and her assistants will represent their region in the National Miss Tourism contest come this October.

Conservationists and Environmentalists who attended the event were presented a proposal about the need to drive a campaign to protect the decreasing glaciers on the Rwenzoris. It has been noted that the rate at which the ice at the top of the Rwenzori Mountains melts is alarming.

Amumpaire Bismac Moses the coordinator Miss Tourism Rwenzori says campaigns like the Anti-Poaching campaign and Environmental sensitisation are the major objectives that have been put at the fore front of the upcoming tourism ambassadors this year.

“Uganda has severely been ravaged by climate change and worry is that; in a few decades to come if nothing is done, the ice on top of the Mountains of the moon might be no more. The new Queen and her team will therefore take it upon themselves to rally the community towards getting solutions to this scourge.” Mr Amumpaire said.
